Munxar lies to the south of Gozo, between the Xlendi valley and the village of Sannat.  The name is derived from the arabic, meaning 'bucksaw', and it was the last place in Gozo to become a parish.  The church was built between 1914 and 1925.  The foundation stone being laid on 2nd February 1914; it was consecrated on 18th October 1925 and established a parish by Bishop Joseph Pace on the same date.  The church is dedicated to the islands most famous shipwreck, that being of Saint Paul in A.D. 60.

The area is ideal for walking and has some breathtaking scenery with views over the open sea. Munxar is a quiet village tucked away inland, but only a short distance from the very lovely  Xlendi Bay - a real 'must' place to visit!.
