Marsalforn
is a very popular summer resort in Gozo. It falls under neighbouring
Zebbug for administrative purposes. The name, Marsalforn is a composite word,
marsa lifurna, or caves hallowed by the sea.
The church of Marsalforn is dedicated to Saint Paul Shipwrecked and the
present building dates back to 1730. Saint Paul, after his three
month long stay in Malta, is said to have left the island from the tiny
port beneath the church. It is the closest port of the Maltese
islands to Pozzallo, in Sicily. |

During the summer, Marsalforn is a bustling, lively
resort. There is a small sandy beach near the harbour which has
safe bathing. Farther round the coastline lies Qbajjar, with
excellent snorkelling. Marsalforn has many harbourside cafes and
restaurants, and it is the main port for the traditional 'luzzijet'
trawlers and fishing boats. Even in the height of summer, this is
a relaxed and easy place to be. |
