Arriving at Malta (Gudja) Airport

The national airline, Air Malta, operates to over 50 destinations throughout the world.  Scheduled and charter services are also provided by airlines from many European and North African countries.  However, many visitors arrive by charter flight and there are some very good packages available.  Malta International Airport, at Luqa, is situated approximately 5 kms to the southeast of the capital Valletta.  On arrival into the airport building, just follow the signs to guide you through immigration and luggage reclaim to the arrival hall and building exit to meet your taxi or collect your hire car.  If you are self driving make certain you have route directions to the ferry port at Cirkewwa readily to hand.

 

...to Gozo by helicopter - PLEASE NOTE THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED - 28/12/06

If you have booked to continue your journey to Gozo by helicopter, you will be guided to the heliport which is accessible by foot,  from within the airport building.  The journey over to Gozo takes around 20 minutes.  See our helicopter services page for the current timetable and further information.

 

...to Gozo by ferry boat

A regular car ferry operates between Cirkewwa on Malta's north coast and Mgarr in Gozo.  The journey takes around 25 minutes.  Allow driving time between the airport at Luqa and ferry port at Cirkewwa of at least one hour - times vary according to the time of day and volume of traffic.  Tickets for the ferry crossing are sold at Cirkewwa.  Click here to read more about the Gozo ferry crossing.
